To celebrate the arrival of the New Grandland, Vauxhall is partnering with iconic slot car racing brand Scalextric to launch the ‘Go Grand and Win a Grand’ competition, where members of the public will have the chance to win £1,000 by clocking the fastest time around a custom-built Scalextric track.
The partnership brings together two iconic British automotive brands. Vauxhall offers a fully electric version of every model in its car and van line-up, while Scalextric is the best-selling British slot car brand.
The electrifying nationwide challenge began in Glasgow last weekend and will visit a further four major cities, inviting participants to race and show off their Scalextric skills around a track where corners, straights and chicanes weave through iconic UK landmarks. The racer with the quickest overall time across the tour will earn a coveted Vauxhall trophy and £1,000*.
The remaining Vauxhall ‘Go Grand and Win a Grand’ tour locations and dates are as follows:
19th – 20th July: Newcastle, Metrocentre
26th – 27th July: Nottingham, Victoria Centre
2nd – 3rd August: Southampton, Westquay
9th – 10th August: London, Westfield White City
At each stop of the tour, visitors can get up close with Vauxhall’s award-winning New Grandland, which will be on display alongside the Scalextric track. In keeping with Vauxhall’s bold and pure design language, the Grandland stands out with its signature 3D Vizor front grille and aerodynamic silhouette – all while offering 550 litres of boot space and over 35 litres of interior storage for growing families and busy professionals.
New Grandland comes with a fully electrified drivetrain portfolio, including the recently announced Grandland Electric AWD (on sale from early Autumn) – the first fully electric Vauxhall with all-wheel drive to further enhance the driving experience.
The fully electric Grandland Electric features a 73kWh (net) battery, a 213hp motor with 345Nm of torque and energy-saving features such as a standard-fit heat pump, enabling a range of up to 325 miles (WLTP) on a single charge. It also supports rapid charging, allowing an 80% charge in around 30 minutes with a 160kW DC charger.
Steve Catlin, Managing Director, Vauxhall said: “Vauxhall’s commitment to electrifying Britain is underlined with the New Grandland thanks to its accessible and exciting range of powertrain options. What better way to celebrate this versatile family vehicle than with the ultimate electric, family racing game, Scalextric. We encourage everyone to take part in our Go Grand and Win a Grand competition, which will deliver an exhilarating experience combining the fun of electric and British innovation.”
Simon Owen, Head of Brand, Scalextric, said: “Scalextric has been bringing generations together through the excitement of racing for over 60 years, so we’re delighted to partner with Vauxhall to celebrate the launch of the New Grandland. The custom-built track, featuring iconic UK landmarks, adds a unique twist to the competition, and we can’t wait to see families and fans of all ages take on the challenge. It’s a great way to showcase two much-loved British brands coming together to create a fun and memorable experience.”
