Exterior

The new Astra is more technical and recognisably modern. The characteristic face of the Vauxhall Vizor is now narrower and more precisely designed. The illuminated Vauxhall Griffin, which premiered on the Grandland, now sits proudly at the centre. The central brand emblem also forms the starting point for the illuminated Compass that run horizontally into the headlights and vertically into the crease of the bonnet – the first time this feature has been introduced on a production Vauxhall, and was inspired by the 2023 Vauxhall Experimental concept and the 2025 Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo concept cars.

Each trim features specific alloy wheels:

• GS: 18-inch ‘Pentagon’ black alloys
• Ultimate: 18-inch ‘Pentagon’ diamond-cut wheels
• Astra Electric: New 18-inch diamond-cut ‘Rekord’ alloy wheels

New Astra is available in seven colour options, including the new Contour White. Hatchback and Sports Tourer models each feature an exclusive colourway with Electric Yellow for the hatchback and Clover Green making its debut on the Sports Tourer. All colour options underline the distinctive appearance of Astra, in combination with the contrasting black roof available from GS trim upwards.

New Intelli-Lux HD lighting

Available as standard on Ultimate trim is the innovative Intelli-Lux HD lighting, which arrives to Astra and Astra Sports Tourer for the first time. The adaptive, glare-free headlights have more than 50,000 elements and cut out preceding and oncoming road users even faster and more precisely than the previous matrix light technologies. The ‘light tunnel’, i.e. the area not illuminated by the light beam, becomes even narrower than before, while the rest of the road and the surrounding area remains better illuminated.

In this way, the system delivers an even brighter and more even light distribution without dazzling other road users. Scientific studies prove the safety advantage: At a speed of 50mph, objects in front of the vehicle can be detected around 30 to 40 metres earlier. This allows the driver to react between one and two seconds earlier to a potential obstacle and possibly avoid an imminent collision.

In bad weather or fog mode, Intelli-Lux HD also reacts to the possible glare effect caused by rain-soaked roads and adjusts the light intensity accordingly to reduce this effect for oncoming traffic. The lighting technology also detects traffic signs and dims the LEDs so that the reflection does not dazzle the driver.

At the same time, all automatic Intelli-Lux functions, from city and country road light to cornering light and bad weather light, have been improved and taken to a new level. The light cone in front of the vehicle can be completely digitally adjusted using more than 50,000 pixels, so that it intuitively guides the driver's perspective along the road when cornering. In addition to the digital adjustment of the light cone, depending on the turning angle, an additional light module is activated on the corresponding side of the headlamp. It illuminates the side of the road even better and thus prevents ‘black holes’ when cornering.

Interior

The upgraded exterior design of the new Astra is also reflected in the interior. A redesigned cabin introduces a refined space with a new scratch-resistant satin grey finish across hard surfaces, physical buttons for key functions such as radio, climate control, and drive modes, and an improved seven-colour ambient lighting system.

Inside every variant, the new Astra offers even more seating comfort than before. Intelli-Seats, specially developed by Vauxhall, now come as standard on every version. They are characterised by a recessed channel running up the middle of the front seat bases, which, inspired by the saddle design on road bicycles, reduces pressure on the tailbone (coccyx). The patented Intelli-Seat ergonomics feature ensures driving comfort even on long drives.

In addition, Astra drivers can tailor their comfort onboard with an AGR-certified¹ driver’s seat available on all versions. Ultimate trim customers can enjoy sustainable seating made from ReNewKnit™, a fabric similar in texture to Alcantara® but is 100% recycled and, unlike composite materials, does not have to be laboriously separated, reducing the CO² footprint and helping to avoid waste.

Depending on the version, up to 1,339 litres of luggage can fit into the rear compartment of the hatchback with the seats folded down. The Astra Sports Tourer offers a load volume of up to 1,634 litres. In addition, the rear seat backrest in the compact-class estate can be flexibly folded down in a 40:20:40 ratio.

Astra cockpit and user interfaces of the infotainment system have also been made even clearer and more intuitive, with all models featuring a 10-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay®/Android Auto® and satellite navigation.

Powertrains

Astra Electric is updated with a new 58.3kWh (gross) / 55.4kWh (net) battery and a 156hp electric motor, plus energy-saving technology such as battery preconditioning to increase range and driving efficiency. Astra Electric accelerates from 0-62mph in 9.3 seconds, with the Sports Tourer taking 9.5 seconds; both models have a top speed of 106mph and produce 270Nm of torque.

An additional 22 miles has been gained to offer up to 281 miles of range for the hatchback, or 276 miles for the Sports Tourer (WLTP provisional). Three levels of regenerative braking, adjusted via paddles on the steering wheel, assist in energy recovery to help extend range during driving.

Astra Electric supports 100kW DC rapid charging, enabling a 20-80% recharge in just 32 minutes. An 11kW on-board charger is fitted as standard, enabling a 20-80% charge from an 11kW AC charger (i.e. in public or with domestic three-phase) in 3h 20min, or 5 hours via a normal 7.4 kW home charger.

The new Astra Electric now offers Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality for the first time as standard, offering the ability to charge external devices such as e-bikes without having to rely on other power sources when on the go.

Further powertrain options come in the form of a Plug-In Hybrid and 48V Hybrid. Plug-in hybrid models pair a 1.6-litre petrol engine with a 17.2kWh battery to produce a total output of 196hp and 360Nm of torque, enabling 0-62mph in 7.6 seconds (7.7 seconds for Sports Tourer) and a 140mph top speed. Driving on electric power alone, the Astra Plug-in Hybrid offers a range of up to 52 miles (WLTP combined).

48V Hybrid models offer convenience and enhanced efficiency without the need to plug in. The powertrain uses a 136hp turbocharged petrol engine that works in combination with an electrified six-speed dual-clutch transmission and a 21hp electric motor for total system output of 145hp. 0-62mph takes 9.0 seconds and top speed is 130mph.

The electric motor supports the petrol engine when accelerating as well as when starting from a standstill. At low speeds, the electric motor also enables all-electric driving for short distances or up to 50% of the time in the city.

New Astra pricing

New Astra is priced extremely competitively within its segment, with price parity across hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric models for every trim level – this incredible value was only recently first seen in the UK market when Vauxhall announced identical OTR pricing for its Frontera and Frontera Electric family SUVs.

In addition, and unique in the market, price parity is also achieved across body styles with no premium for choosing the larger Sports Tourer over the hatchback.

All fully electric, Plug-in Hybrid, and 48V Hybrid models for Astra and Astra Sports Tourer start from £29,995 for Griffin trim, representing savings of over £5,000 on electric and plug-in hybrid versions compared to the outgoing model.

All versions of the new Astra are priced well under the £40,000 threshold for the Expensive Car Supplement, saving customers £2,200 in VED (road tax) over the first six years of ownership.

A 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol option, in manual and automatic guises, will be introduced as an additional powertrain later in the year.
